This i what i think..
Recently a couple of my classmates have forwarded me some very explicit, disturbing images. One was a series of photos about this young girl who survived a horrific DIU accident, but suffered severe burns, and a few years since then has still not recovered form the burns. The photos were really..um..euphemistically, freaky.
I dont usually cringe or turn away from gruesome images but this was really too much to stomach.
it was HORRIBLE.
In the same strain, the second friend forwarded me very graphic photos of the tsuanmi affected denizens..one photo was of a little infant being airlifted and presumably, it was dead.I dint look any further. Not only was i squeamish, but disgusted at the apathy of these people(my classmates).
I know we have the right and privilege to information in any form..in any media..but there has to be some point where it is just not acceptable to make news of someone's personal grief (or pain or misery). I feel its just not alright to glamourize this horrible event (or to splash it on the front page). The carnage and the misery is unimaginable and rightfully so..for to know what they(the victims) go through (or went through) would be too much to handle, ordinarily, and would leave us numb with helplessness..
On one of the fortnightly magazines the picture of a man holiding his dead child's fist in his hands spoke a million words of the misery, the grief. We cannot allow such a personal grief to be available to millions of readers. Its personal!!!!!! its only his right to participate, the reader can do nothing but commiserate.
Since when has it become ok to display such graphic, disturbing images??
does the media really think of the aftereffects of viewing such images? Does the media believe that seeing some disturbing image is a surefire way of increasing the readership/viewership, the effectual way to market your product?
This has become an increasingly apparent trend in the media- to make flash news out of someone's death, someone's loss. Are we as a people becoming so insensitive to another's grief??
horrible..if this is what connectivity, this is being "informative" of our surroundings..please, i'd prefer to be a giant ignoramus, rather than desensitize my feelings, my emotions..
i dont want to calmly turn the page and go on to the ad about the next clearance sale..no no no
